Goaltending assist Manny Legace was also fired.
Larsen had a deal for 1 more year as HC of the Blue Jackets. He finished the season with a 25-48-9 record, and Columbus will not be part of the postseason for 3rd season in a row.
“This season has been extremely disappointing, and the responsibility for that lies with all of us,” said GM Jarmo Kekalainen in a press release. “These decisions were difficult and not made lightly, given our respect for Brad and Manny as coaches and people.
Brad became the head coach of the Blue Jackets at the start of the last season when he replaced John Tortorella and finished 37-38-7 in his 1st year.
Forward Johnny Gaudreau joined the franchise before the 2022-23 season began. Expectations were high, but they earned only 59 points – 2nd lowest in Columbus history and finished in the last place in the Metropolitan Division.
