The Americans needed a win to secure their spot in the next round, but Panama took the runners-up spot in the group

The United States was eliminated from the Copa America after a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay, which secured the top spot in Group C and allowed Panama to advance as runners-up.

Panama’s 3-1 victory over Bolivia earned them six points, placing them second in the group and knocking the U.S. out of the tournament. The U.S. needed a win to secure their place in the knockout stages but fell short despite a strong start.

The match saw several injuries, with Uruguay’s Maximiliano Araujo leaving the field in the 27th minute after a collision with U.S. defender Tim Ream. Araujo was replaced by Cristian Olivera after being fitted with a neck brace and carried off on a stretcher. U.S. striker Folarin Balogun also had to be substituted following a collision with Uruguay’s goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.

Uruguay scored the match-winning goal in the 66th minute when Mathias Olivera converted a rebound after U.S. goalkeeper Matthew Turner parried Ronald Araujo’s header back into play. The goal stood after a lengthy VAR review for offside, sealing the United States’ fate and allowing Uruguay to move forward in the competition.
