The match saw several injuries, with Uruguay’s Maximiliano Araujo leaving the field in the 27th minute after a collision with U.S. defender Tim Ream. Araujo was replaced by Cristian Olivera after being fitted with a neck brace and carried off on a stretcher. U.S. striker Folarin Balogun also had to be substituted following a collision with Uruguay’s goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.

Uruguay scored the match-winning goal in the 66th minute when Mathias Olivera converted a rebound after U.S. goalkeeper Matthew Turner parried Ronald Araujo’s header back into play. The goal stood after a lengthy VAR review for offside, sealing the United States’ fate and allowing Uruguay to move forward in the competition.
