Experienced forward Corey Perry has disclosed his collaboration with mental health professionals to address his struggles with alcohol abuse following the termination of his contract by the Chicago Blackhawks due to what they deemed “unacceptable behavior.”
Perry issued an email statement to the AP and other media outlets, expressing regret for what he acknowledged as “inappropriate and wrong” conduct. The 38-year-old NHL veteran is determined to rebuild the trust of those who supported him throughout his career.
In his official statement, Perry conveyed, “I would like to sincerely apologize to everyone at the Chicago Blackhawks, including the owners, management, coaches, staff, and my teammates. I would also like to apologize to my fans and my family. I am ashamed of my behavior.”

Having concluded the 2022/23 season with 12 goals and 13 assists in 81 games, Perry, a former Hart Trophy winner, reflects on an impressive career that includes winning the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007. Over the course of his career, which spanned stints with the Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens, Perry accumulated 417 goals and 466 assists in 1,257 NHL games.
