The Portuguese star now has 1 226 career matches

Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new world record for the most matches played at the international level, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

This milestone was achieved when Ronaldo played his 1,226th career match during a friendly between Portugal and Ireland, where he also scored a brace in a 3-0 victory. This accomplishment surpasses the previous record held by former Brazilian goalkeeper Rogério Ceni, who played 1,225 matches.

Breaking down his career statistics, Ronaldo has participated in 698 league matches across Portugal, England, Spain, Italy, and Saudi Arabia. Additionally, he has played 101 matches in domestic cup and super cup competitions, 220 club tournament games, and 207 matches for the Portuguese national team.

Ronaldo, who is 39 years old, boasts a remarkable list of accolades including five Ballon d’Or awards, five UEFA Champions League titles, a European Championship, and a Nations League victory. He holds the record as the top scorer in the history of national teams, European Championships, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. His prolific career includes stints with Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid (where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer), Juventus, and most recently, Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia since December 2022.
