Tom Curry will take part in England’s opening game of the World Cup against Argentina after the flanker was declared fit.
The 25-year-old missed all of his national team’s warm-up games last month and hasn’t featured in competitive game since May, when he sustained a severe ankle injury.
England’s defense coach Kevin Sinfield expressed his delight about the news, pointing out that Curry is an excellent player.
“It’s great to see Tom out there training,” Sinfield said on Tuesday.
“He’s been excellent. He’s got a number of caps under his belt now and he’s been doing it for years. He can play a number of positions across the back row for us too. We’re delighted he’s available.”
Curry’s return is a major boost for England, who have suffered real headaches with absent players, following the suspension Owen Farrell and Billy Vunipola. They will hope the 25-year-old can strengthen their defense, which has conceded 11 tries in 4 warm-up matches.
