The Mavs movement was stymied by Boston’s defense in the Game 1 defeat.

On the Dallas Mavericks’ 4th possession, the leader of the team, Luka Doncic, tossed a look-ahead pass to P.J. Washington that finished with a dunk. However, that remained the Slovenian superstar’s lone assist in the match.

Mavericks’ entire squad had only 9 assists in the 107-89 defeat against the Boston Celtics. Dallas had their lowest-notching away game of the playoffs this campaign in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

“We must move the ball,” Dallas manager Jason Kidd shared. “The ball just stuck too much. And we will improve in our next match.”

Boston, NBA’s 2nd-ranked defense this campaign, succeeded in keeping quiet Luka and Kyrie without putting 2 players on them. The Slovenian finished with 30 points but Irving, guarded by Holiday, scored only 12 points.

“We played phenomenal individual defense,” Boston manager Joe Mazzulla revealed. “Everybody has put their greatest effort into guarding those stars.”

Mazzulla added that his players will continue to take their matchup personal.
