Washington Nationals head coach Dave Martinez has agreed to a 2-year deal extension with the franchise he led to the 2019 World Series championship.
Dave’s new contract was 1st reported by The Athletic, which also shares that veteran GM Mike Rizzo is close to inking an extension also.
The current deals of the manager and the general manager are until the end of the campaign, part of the uncertainty around an organization that is rebuilding.
The manager’s record with the MLB franchise from the US capital is 378-455, a .454 winning %.
The ex-MLB player became the head coach of the Nationals in 2018, his 1st managerial job in the league. The next campaign, the organization started with a 19-31 record before stars such as Stephen Strasburg, Max Scherzer, Juan Soto, Anthony Rendon, and Trea Turner made it happen for Washington to play in the NL wild-card berth.
After that, Washington won against Houston Astros in Game 7 of the World Series for the organization’s 1st championship.
