Alex De Minaur has defeated Holger Rune in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (2) to reach his first final at Queen, where he will face either Carlos Alcaraz or Sebastian Korda on Sunday.
The Australian was in the driving seat from the beginning as he was able to break Rune from the get-go. He was efficient at his serve and closed out the set effortlessly.
Rune fought back in the second set and saved crucial break points in the 8th game, but De Minaur was excellent in the tie-break and wrapped up the match.
“I love being here, love playing on this court in front of this amazing crowd,” De Minaur said.
“It’s a pretty special tournament, today was my best match so far. So, happy days – one to go. It would be pretty nice to win, I’ll do my best.”
All this bodes well for the 24-year-old as his form on grass rapidly improves, as Wimbledon is just around the corner.
