The New Jersey Devils trashed New York Rangers 4-0 to take a 3-2 lead in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday night.

Erik Haula scored two goals and added an assist, while Dawson Mercer also scored. Goaltender Akira Schmid made 23 saves.
New Jersey are on a run of 3 consecutive wins after losing the opening 2 games and now lead by 3-2. It was also a first victory in the series by a home team.
Rangers didn’t score a single goal as they are now outscored by 9-2 in the last 3 games, after coming off 5-1 in front after the first two.
“We just weren’t good enough,” Rangers coach Gerard Gallant said. “Jersey played their best game of the series. You’ve got to give them credit.”
Game 6 will be held on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.
