New Jersey were largely beaten by Carolina in their first two games of the Conference semi-finals, but the Devils raised their heads at home by winning 8-4 to come back to 2-1 in the series.
Nico Hischier and Timo Meier distinguished themselves by each scoring a goal.
Back to the wall after their two initial defeats against the Hurricanes, New Jersey and its Swiss showed a much more conquering face to maintain the hope of qualifying for the Conference finals.
The Devils thus started strong by already leading 3-0 after the 1st third. It was first of all Timo Meier who allowed his team to lead 1-0 by lighting the lamp from the 6th minute. Jack Hughes doubled the lead in the 11th minute before Michael McLeod scored 3-0 shorthanded on a pass from Nico Hischier.
In the second period, it only took 53 seconds for Nico Hischier to get there. The Hurricanes coach then decided to change goalkeepers, but Sebastian Aho’s 4-1 and Jordan Martinook’s 5-2 did not demobilize the Devils. In the 3rd period, Jonas Siegenthaler was the author of an assist on the 7-2.
