The Serbian was hit by a water bottle in the head after his game vs Corentin Moutet

Novak Djokovic faced a moment of concern after an accidental incident following his win at the Italian Open on Friday.

While signing autographs, Djokovic was unexpectedly struck on the head by a water bottle that fell from a man’s backpack leaning over the railing. The impact caused Djokovic to react, clutching his head and momentarily seeking refuge on the ground as a security guard intervened. Subsequently, he was assisted off the court and into the locker room.

Although Djokovic sustained a bump on his head, doctors examined him, and tournament organizers reassured that his condition was not worrisome. He opted not to hold his usual post-match press conference.

In a statement, organizers confirmed the incident, stating Djokovic received medical attention and left the Foro Italico for his hotel. Fortunately, he did not require stitches despite having a minor cut.

Italian Tennis Federation spokesman Alessandro Catapano provided further details, indicating that while Djokovic appeared upset, he was generally okay. Efforts to identify the individual responsible for the accident were underway, with authorities reviewing available video footage.

Djokovic later reassured fans of his well-being on social media. “Thank you for the messages of concern. This was an accident and I am fine resting at the hotel with an ice pack. See you all on Sunday,” he wrote on X.
