Novak Djokovic claimed a record-extending 10th title at the Australian Open with a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas to level Rafael Nadal’s all-time record for most Grand Slam men’s singles titles with 22.

The Serbian, who also returned to the top of the world ranking, dropped just one set all tournament despite saying he feared a left hamstring problem might force him to withdraw.
Djokovic finished with a superb win over first-time Melbourne finalist Tsitsipas to become the fifth player to win 22 Grand Slam singles titles, after Margaret Court (24), Serena Williams (23), and Steffi Graf and Nadal (both 22).
Last year, the 35-year-old Serb was unable to defend his title after being deported from the country over his COVIDbe-19 vaccination status.
This year at Melbourne Park, he has had a hamstring injury and had to deal with the fallout of his father, Srdjan, being filmed with a group of Russian supporters at the Australian Open.
During the presentation ceremony, Djokovic described this win as “the biggest victory of my life.”
“This has been one of the more challenging tournaments I’ve ever played in my life, considering the circumstances,” he said.
“Not playing last year, coming back this year. I want to thank all the people who made me feel welcome, made me feel comfortable.
“Only the team and family knows what we’ve been through these last four to five weeks and this is the biggest victory of my life considering those circumstances.”
