In Monday night’s matchup, Matt Duchene’s two goals and an assist on Thomas Harley’s overtime goal propelled the Dallas Stars to a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken.
Jason Robertson also found the back of the net for the Stars, extending their recent success with a 3-0-1 record in their last four games. The Kraken forced the game into overtime with Eeli Tolvanen’s 6-on-5 goal, tying the score with just 21.8 seconds remaining in regulation.
In a clash of backup goalies due to injuries to the teams’ No. 1 netminders, Scott Wedgewood (7-1-2) emerged victorious, making 35 saves. Wedgewood overcame an early scare when he dropped to the ice after taking a slap shot near his left collarbone, where there was no padding.
Tomas Tatar and Matty Beniers each contributed a goal and an assist for the Kraken, who have struggled with a 2-6-4 record in their last 12 games. Joey Daccord (5-5-8) stopped 24 shots in his fourth consecutive start.
This game marked the first meeting between the Stars and Kraken since Dallas’ seven-game victory in the second round of last season’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. Wedgewood made consecutive starts for the first time this season, filling in for the injured Jake Oettinger. The Kraken’s primary goalie, Philipp Grubauer, was placed on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury sustained in the previous Saturday’s game.
Notably, Seattle forwards Jared McCann and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare did not play in the third period due to lower-body injuries. On a positive note for the Kraken, defenseman Adam Larsson celebrated his 800th career NHL game.
