"I feel that the upcoming restart should be led by a new person", the coach said in a statement

Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzić has left the club by mutual agreement. The 41-year-old’s departure comes shortly after he led the team to the Champions League final, where they were defeated by Real Madrid.

Terzić’s contract was initially set to expire next summer, but he will leave with immediate effect. Dortmund announced his exit in a statement released on Thursday morning, which highlighted his contributions to the club. The statement read:

“Edin Terzić leaves Borussia Dortmund. The coach, who won the DFB Cup with BVB in 2021, finished runner-up in the 2023 championship, and reached the 2024 Champions League final, asked BVB to terminate his contract with immediate effect. Borussia Dortmund agreed to the request after a joint discussion.”

Terzić expressed his thoughts on the decision, saying, “Dear Borussians, even though it pains me greatly right now, I want to inform you that as of today, I will be leaving BVB. It was a tremendous honor to lead this great club to a DFB-Pokal victory and recently to a Champions League final”.

“After our final in Wembley, I asked the management for a conversation because, after ten years at BVB, including five years in the coaching team and two and a half years as head coach, I feel that the upcoming restart should be led by a new person”.

Terzić’s tenure at Dortmund has been marked by significant achievements, including winning the DFB Cup in 2021, securing a second-place finish in the Bundesliga in 2023, and guiding the team to the Champions League final in 2024.
