The Premier League and PGMOL will release public audio from on-field referees and video assistant referees (VAR) for the first time as part of a one-off television product.
The audio will consist of referees discussing important decisions from the 2022/23 Premier League season and will be broadcast before the end of the season. England refereeing chairman Howard Webb will also be on the show to explain the footage to viewers.
It is expected that from 2023-24 onwards there will be more frequent releases of such audio recordings. It will aim to increase the openness of refereeing in the Premier League, with the initiative having come from the new head of referees himself.
Webb, 51, has been appointed PGMOL’s chief methodologist and his role aims to improve the standards of on-field referees in the Premier League.
