Luis Enrique has reportedly held talks with Chelsea on April 2, following Graham Potter’s sacking.
The former Treble winner with Barcelona was ready to take charge of the club, but was disappointed with Boehly’s decision to appoint Lampard as interim manager.
Graham Potter was sacked after series of disappointing results and many were shocked by the owner’s decision to appoint former Chelsea player Frank Lampard, who had been sacked as head-coach just two years prior.
Many candidates were present, but most preferred to start from the summer with the exception of Enrique, who showed his readiness to take charge immediately.
Enrique has been without a job since leaving Spain after the World Cup and was highly motivated to lead Chelsea for the rest of the season, and especially in the 1/4 final tie against Real Madrid.
However, the Spaniard was left frustrated with team’s owner Todd Boehly decision to appoint Lampard.
Despite the snub, Enrique still remains one of the top candidates to take over the club in the summer.
