David Croft, a well known voice from Sky Sports commentary, has described the rookie Oscar Piastri as “F1 champion in the making”.
Croft underlined the 21-year old groundbreaking qualifying lap at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which saw the youngster start from 8th, while his teammate Lando Norris could only manage 19th with the Briton pulling off in the pits during Q3 after uncharacteristic error.
A slow start disabled Piastri to fight for the top 10, but even then he managed to finish ahead of Norris, overtaking him in a hard-fought wheel-to-wheel battle.
“He is the real deal. I like Oscar Piastri. As a human being I think he is fantastic, he’s really approachable, very chatty – a really easygoing guy,” Croft told SEN Radio.
“In the years to come we will see some fine performances from this man. He looks a champion in the making, to be honest, and has done for some time now.”
As the third round of the Formula One World Championship in Melbourne zooms in, many Australian fans are excited for the new prospect they have in Piastri, who will race in his home-town, after Daniel Ricciardo failed to renew his contract with McLaren and is currently a reserve driver for Red Bull. Despite driving arguably one of the worst cars on the grid, Piastri definetely lights up the timing sheets and is undoubtedly someone to look at.
