Brentford striker Ivan Toney’s ban has been reduced to eight months due to his good behavior and “genuine remorse” for his gambling addiction, the English Football Association (FA) announced.
Tony was banned from playing and fined £50,000 earlier this month after the 27-year-old Brentford and England striker admitted 232 breaches of FA betting rules, which included match-fixing, in which he participated.
The FA’s Independent Regulatory Commission published its written reasons for the ban, which said all parties had reached a common position to reduce the ban from 11 months to 8 due to his young age and remorse for his gambling addiction.
Ivan Toney’s diagnosed gambling addiction provided “significant mitigation” in allowing the Brentford striker a reduced ban from football.
Toney placed 29 bets, or instructed bets to be placed, on clubs he was registered with between February 2017 and January 2021.

“He is determined to resolve his gambling problem with therapy at the end of this season. Taking all these matters into account, the committee reduces the sanction by three months to an eight-month ban,” the FA said in a statement.
