FIA are set to make changes to the Qatar Grand Prix after several complaints over the dangerous heat during the race.
According to many drivers, the temperatures inside the cockpit reached 50 degree Celsius as air was unable to get inside the car. More than half the grid complaint that they felt sick and were close to passing out.
Most notably, Canadian Lance Stroll shared that he lost consciousness on several occasions, while Esteban Ocon vomited inside the car.
Alex Albon received medical attention, while his teammate Logan Sargeant had to retire midway through the race, suffering from extreme dehydration.
The governing body has taken measures by moving the next edition in December 2024, when the temperatures are expected to be much cooler.
“The FIA notes with concern that the extreme temperature and humidity during the 2023 FIA Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix had an impact on the wellbeing of the drivers.” a statement read.
“It should be noted that while next year’s edition of the Qatar Grand Prix is scheduled later in the year, when temperatures are expected to be lower, the FIA prefers to take material action now to avoid a repeat of this scenario.”
