The Calgary Flames have sacked manager Darryl Sutter on Monday as the team endured a difficult season, which saw them unable to advance to the playoff stages.
The news comes two weeks after ex Flames general manager Brad Treliving turned down a contract extension and departed the club.
Sutter was appointed as head-coach back in the 2020-21 season, replacing Geoff Ward and led the team to an impressive 50-21-11 record in the next campaign, toppled with a first-round playoff win.
It was Sutter’s the second spell with the club after taking charge back in 2002 until 2010. He won two Stanley Cups after that with Los Angeles Kings (in 2011-12 and 2013-14).
“On behalf of ownership and all Calgary Flames fans, we want to thank Darryl for his cumulative years of service to the Calgary Flames and to the community at large,” John Bean, president and chief executive officer of Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, said in a statement.
