Staal becomes yet another signing for the Flyers in what turns out to be a rebuilding process led by general manager Daniele Briere.
The Philadelphia team have just brought in winger Garnet Hathaway for $4.75 m in 2 years and Ryan Poehling for $1.4 m in one year over the weekend.
Staal was part of the Florida team that reached the Stanley Cup final, having started in all 82 regular games in the season.
The 36-year-old veteran is expected to step in the place of Tony DeAngelo, who headed back to Carolina.
