The young defender skipped the Blues’ pre-season tour to the United States in order to have “specialist medical assessments”. And the tests indeed confirmed that operation is necessary.
“Wesley will now begin his recovery and work with the club’s medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase,” a club’s statement said.
The news is another setback for Fofana, who has suffered a lot from injuries, having broken his leg back in August 2021 in Leicester, which ruled him out for 7 months.
Last season Fofana missed 4 months with injury complications to his knee and registered only 20 starts for the Blues.
The news are also a blow for the team, who just offloaded defenders Cesar Azpilicueta and Kalidou Koulibaly and will need every bit of backing in the defense line.
