The future of 2 of the Miami Dolphins’ highest earners is questionable as the franchise begins the offseason, with both Xavien Howard and Terron Armstead admitting that they can not return to the organization for the next campaign.
Xavien Howard says, “It’s still money at the end of the day.” The multi-time pro bowler is now 30 & missed the end of the season due a “mid-foot sprain.” X has a cap hit of $25 million next season, but the team has a “potential out,” now. Howard, Miami’s longest-tenured footballer and a starting CB, missed 5 matches this campaign, including the postseason clash against the Kansas City Chiefs. Only the Denver Broncos’ Justin Simmons has more interceptions than his 29 in the past 7 years in the league.
But Xavien has an almost 26 million dollar salary cap hit this year, and Miami can save almost 19 million dollars by cutting him during the offseason. His time with the Dolphins has been eventful in the last few seasons, which saw the franchise pick 2 cornerbacks in the 1st and 2nd rounds, ink Byron Jones to a larger deal than his in 2020, and trade for All-Pro Jalen Ramsey before the beginning of the 2023 campaign.
“My 8 seasons with Miami, I loved it,” Howard shared with the media. “No matter what they decide, I’m with it.”
