Coco Gauff showed great fighting spirit and the final 10 games of her match against Elise Mertens to complete a stunning comeback win 3-6 6-3 6-0 at the US Open.
The American reached the round of 16, where she will face Caroline Wozniacki on Sunday.
Gauff was in deep trouble at the outset of the match as the Belgian was very precise and changing the tempo of the points, left her opponent without an answer, which brought her the first set.
After some exchanges of breaks early in the second set Gauff grabbed her chance when she broke for a 4-3 lead and later on – the set. The third set was a one man show for Gauff’s speedy defense, pinpoint serving and terrific play.
