The Germans opened the scoring as early as the 5th minute with Nico Sturm.
Austria were quick to respond, leveling the score after Bernd Wolff benefited from a fortunate rebound and put the pluck past Germany’s goaltender.
The Germans were soon ahead once again when Parker Tuomie slotted his first World Championship goal. They doubled their lead through Wojciech Strachowiak.
However, it was not smooth sailing as Austria reduced the deficit at 53:25 for 3-2.
In the 59th minute Sturm slotted his second of the night and rounded off the final result.
It is Germany’s second victory in succession as they are now pushing for a quarter-final spot.
Meanwhile, the loss spills the end for Austria’s hopes of making it out of the group as they now battle to avoid relegation.
