The Germans were the team dictating the pace early on and they deservedly opened the scoring at 6:25 with Robert Mayer’s rather fortunate deflected shot.
The Swiss drew the score level in the opening minutes of the second period with Jonas Siegenthaler excellent strike.
They established a real dominance after that, but were unable to break Germany’s defense.
Two goals from John Peterka and Nico Sturm, separated by only 36 seconds send the Germans to the promise land and sank the Swiss dreams.
It is the 2nd time in 3 years that the Germans emerge triumphant against Switzerland in a 1/4 final game.
They will be looking to continue their fine run of recent results into the 1/2 finals.
