If it were to happen, it would be a huge move for the Giants, who are in a desperate need of a creative playmaker. And Darren Waller possesses all the key ingredients – he is athletic, field-stretching tight end, who can track linebackers and safeties.
The 30-year-old was at the peak of his power during the 2019-20 seasons with the Raiders, when he generated back-to-back 1,100 yards. However, his career has been plagued with injuries in the last couple of years at Vegas, where he played only 9 games in 2022. He managed to earn 28 catches for 388 yards and three touchdowns.
Waller’s addition to the Giants’ squad gives head coach Brian Daboll the flexibility to experiment with other players, such as the other TE Daniel Bellinger, who impressed in his rookie campaign.
If the Raiders were to sell Waller, that would leave them with a huge cap for the tight end position, with Foster Moreau currently a free agent. They might look to a deep TE draft to fill in the void.
