Olivier hinted before the Euro 2024 that he would go only as far as his country went in the tournament.
“The moment I’ve been dreading is now. The moment to say goodbye to the national team,” the 37-year-old Giroud shared on social media today.
Giroud and his teammates were eliminated in the ½ finals of eventual champs Spain. The forward was a 2nd-half substitute in his final match for his country.
Olivier netted 57 goals in 137 games for Les Blues and was part of the team that triumphed in the 2018 World Cup.
He will continue to play at club level in the MLS after he inked with LAFC, leaving Europe after 18 seasons in Ligue 1, Premier League and Serie A. Giroud joined the MLS side from Italian AC Milan with a deal through 2025 that features an option for an additional season.
