Antoine Griezmann, the French forward, has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33. The Atlético Madrid star made 137 appearances for France, scoring 44 goals over a distinguished career. Griezmann was instrumental in helping France win the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he scored a penalty in the final as France triumphed 4-2 over Croatia. He also contributed to the team’s victory in the 2021 Nations League.
In a heartfelt video posted on social media, Griezmann expressed his gratitude for his time representing the French national team: “It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolour adventure and see you soon.”
Reflecting on his decade-long international career, Griezmann said it was time to step aside for the new generation, adding that wearing the France jersey had been both “an honour and a privilege.”
Griezmann’s career with France included being the top scorer at Euro 2016, where France finished as runners-up, losing to Portugal in the final. His final appearance came in a 2-0 win against Belgium in September 2023.
