Alfa Romeo’s driver Guanyu Zhou says Belgium circuit Spa Francorchamps should be modified for the sake of safety.
Last week Dilano van ‘t Hoff lost his life in a serious crash on the wet track. In 2019 Formula 2 pilot Anthoine Hubert also died in Spa on the legendary corner named Red Water.
“For me, the configuration of the track has to change. I lost a friend there in 2019, Antoine, so it hurts a lot. This turn is legendary that’s for sure but for safety it needs to be changed, we lost a lot of lives there.
“I watched videos, I think from 1994, when there was a chicane there. Maybe this will be the right move. I think the stands can be moved back a bit, there is room there. Overtaking will be possible with the slipstream, but the speed will be lower, everything will happen more slowly,” Zhou told Silverstone media yesterday.
