Ruud Gullit has claimed that Wout Weghorst is not good enough for either Manchester United or Holland.
The Manchester United striker, who joined the club on loan in January has found the net only twice in 18 appearances across all competitions.
As for his performances for the national team, they are equally disappointing as the 30-year old yet again failed to score against minnows Gibraltar, who are ranked 200 in the world, despite having three clean chances.
In Gullit’s view these kind of statistics are unacceptable due to the high standards required both at United and in the national team.
‘I have a lot of admiration for him, but at the same time, I think he is not good enough for Manchester United and the Oranje,’ he said.
Weghorst himself didn’t hold anything back when ask to give an honest opinion of his own performances.
‘Ultimately, it’s also quality. You have to be honest about that too. You can call it bad luck, but that last ball of mine was allowed in. As a striker, you know that you can score in these kind of competitions.’ he said.
Despite the Dutch goal drought he still remains first choice striker for Erik Ten Hag due to his commitment and work rate.
