The 7-time world champion says better driving is not enough in most circuits

Lewis Hamilton is definitely one of the most capable drivers behind in Formula 1 car in recent years. It is no coincidence that the Briton has won seven world titles, but he admits that the driving skills are not enough to make up for the deficit that the Mercedes team has from last two season leaders of Red Bull.

Hamilton is one of only two drivers to beat Red Bull in a competitive session this season. This happened in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, when he claimed pole position by just 0.003 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen. Earlier, Charles Leclerc won both qualifiers on the streets of Baku in Azerbaijan.

“I always rely on my driving skills to make up for the deficit, but it’s not enough in many places. Looking at the race at Silverstone, you might not have seen it, but by turn 13 myself and Max were on the same qualifying lap times. After that we just lost performance and speed,” Hamilton said.
