Teuro Teravainen proved to be star of the show as his hat-trick was all that Carolina needed to dominate over San Jose, who remain winless this season.
The Finn takes his tally to 7 goals in 9 games after scoring just 12 times in 68 appearances last campaign.
Goaltender Antti Raanta made 20 saves for a shutout, which gave him his 10th consecutive victory at home.
“He made a lot of really quality saves and allowed us to kind of cruise,” coach Rod Brind’Amour said.
Meanwhile, the Sharks registered their 7th loss of the season and are only one short of the worst start of NHL history. They haven’t got a win in 14 games going back to April.
“Everyone goes through losing streaks at some point and time in the season,” San Jose coach David Quinn said. “Ours happens to be early. It’s a little bit longer than anybody would like but we have a lot of faith in this group.”
