The Washington Commanders plan to stick with Taylor Heinicke as their starting quarterback as long as he continues to play well and the team keeps winning, the NFL club said.

Heinicke, who replaced the injured Carson Wentz, will start for a fifth consecutive time on Sunday when the Commanders (5-5) visit the Houston Texans (1-7-1).
Wentz suffered a right ring finger in an Oct. 13 win at Chicago. He was eligible to come off IR this past week, but Washington did not feel he was ready.
After taking over for Wentz after Week 6, Heinicke has led a stunning turnaround for Washington, winning three of his last four games.
It’s also possible that Wentz returns to the starting lineup sooner rather than later — but only if Heinicke and the offense struggle and the Commanders start losing again.
