Christian Horner expressed his delight with Sergio Perez performance at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which saw the Mexican clinch his second win of the season, his 6th overall in his career.
Perez started 3rd and passed Charles Leclerc for 2nd, before taking advantage of a well-timed Safety car to jump his teammate Max Verstappen for the lead in the pitstops.
But that was not all, as Perez not only managed to fend off his elusive teammate, but also built a sizeable gap over him, underlining his pace advantage.
“He’s had a sensational weekend. He’s always been outstanding at this track; I don’t know what it is about Azerbaijan but he absolutely excels here. He got a little lucky with the Safety Car today but then he converted that and he pulled a gap and he had the pace and he really controlled the race. So phenomenal drive by him all weekend,” said Horner.
Perez is now a genuine title contender, trailing Verstappen by only six points and he will be looking for a potential swap in the Drivers Standings this week in Miami, which would most certainly happen if he emerges victorious yet again.
