Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has advanced to the final of the Olympic men’s tennis tournament for the first time in his illustrious career, following an impressive victory over Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. Djokovic, who already holds a bronze medal from the Beijing 2008 Olympics, defeated Musetti 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals.
After securing his place in the final, Djokovic lay down on the court, visibly relieved and satisfied with his performance. “This is a huge relief because I have never reached the final of the Olympic Games before, even though I have played really well,” said Djokovic. “The attempt to win gold for the first time for my country, no matter what happens on Sunday, is a huge pride, honor, and happiness.”
The 37-year-old Serbian emphasized his commitment to fight for the gold medal on Sunday against Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz, who has been in exceptional form. Despite losing the Wimbledon final to Alcaraz, Djokovic remains confident following his meniscus surgery and recovery from a right knee injury.
This dream is long lived and fought for. I wanted to compete in the finals of Olympic games for such a long time. Representing my country at a global event is a huge privilege and honor that I cherish. Serbia will have a medal on Sunday!!! Ideeeemooooo 🥳🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸 pic.twitter.com/GLywjKPNNd

“Of course, I will fight for gold on Sunday, there’s no doubt about that,” Djokovic asserted. He also acknowledged that he does not consider himself the favorite, given the recent history with Alcaraz. However, his recent form and determination make for an exciting final matchup.
