Zlatan Ibrahimovic became the oldest scorer in Serie A history at the age of 41 after slotting home a retaken penalty in AC Milan’s 3-1 loss to Udinese on Saturday night.
Ibrahimovic’ first effort was saved by goalkeeper Marco Silvestri, but the referee deemed the penalty kick invalid as Udinese player were inside the box.
It was Ibrahimovic’ first goal after returning from serious knee-injury back in February.
The Swede made a surprising return to Serie A giants Milan in 2021 and helped them secure the title last season.
The 41-year old, however, needed to undergo a surgery to his anterior cruciate ligament, which forced him out of play until February. Since then Ibrahimovic has made 3 appearances coming off the bench, with this being his first start.
The benchmark goal made Ibrahimovic the oldest scorer in Serie A history at the age of 41 years and 166 days, surpassing the previous record, held by Alessandro Costacurta (41 years and 25 days).
The San Siro’s team 3-1 loss is the latest of many disappointing results, which puts their top 4 finish in the table under serious doubt.
However, the return of talisman Ibrahimovic in the starting lineup could only be viewed as positive as Milan prepare themselves for key clashes against Italian rivals Napoli in the Champions League quarter-finals.
