Inter Milan secured a 1-0 victory over Fiorentina in Serie A on Sunday, thanks to an early header by Lautaro Martinez.
The goal came in the 14th minute when Martinez skillfully nodded in a corner from a tight angle. Simone Inzaghi’s team reclaimed the top spot in the league standings with this win, holding 54 points, one ahead of second-placed Juventus.
Inter has a game in hand. Fiorentina, currently in fifth place with 34 points, also has a game in hand.
In the 75th minute, Fiorentina had a chance to level the score from the penalty spot, but substitute Nicolas Gonzalez’s attempt was comfortably saved by Inter’s goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, after a foul on M’Bala Nzola.
Next week Inter and Juventus go head to head in the Derby d’Italia in a game with high stakes for the future of the title in Serie A.
