Kyrie Irving’s 28-point performance fueled the visiting Dallas Mavericks to a 113-107 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, despite struggles from both teams’ star players.
The Mavericks (40-29) maintained a seven-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Spurs (15-54) mounted an 11-2 run early in the final period, briefly seizing a 95-93 lead. However, Dallas responded with a pivotal six-point run, including a crucial jumper from Irving, to regain control.
Devin Vassell’s layup and Dante Exum’s late 3-poInter weren’t enough for San Antonio to close the gap, as Dallas secured their sixth win in the past seven games and completed a four-game season series sweep against the Spurs.
Despite Luka Doncic’s triple-double performance of 18 points, 16 assists, and 10 rebounds, he struggled with his shooting, going just 6 of 27 from the field. Exum contributed 16 points off the bench for Dallas, with Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II adding 13 and 12 points, respectively.
For the Spurs, Tre Jones led the scoring with 22 points, followed by Vassell with 19 points. Keldon Johnson contributed 14 points, while Jeremy Sochan recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds. Rookie standout Victor Wembanyama finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, six blocks, and three assists, despite shooting 3-of-13 from the field.
San Antonio has now lost four of its past five games, unable to halt Dallas’ momentum. The Mavericks held a 38-30 lead after the first quarter, with the Spurs managing to tie the game at 45 midway through the second quarter. However, Dallas surged ahead before halftime, leading 65-56 at the break.
The Spurs continued to battle in the third quarter, tying the game at 67 before the Mavericks closed out the period with a 10-2 run, establishing a 91-84 advantage heading into the final quarter.
