The New York team secured their first shootout win of the season

The New York Islanders came out victorious 2-1 against Washington Capitals on Wednesday night.

Bo Horvat and Kyle Palmieri both scored in the shootout to help their team secure the win. Pierre Engvall scored for the Islanders in regulation time, while Conor Sheary found himself on the scoresheet for the Capitals.

Goaltender Ilya Sorokin made 25 saves as he stopped two out the three shootout attempts from the opposing team.

“We needed it,” head Coach Lane Lambert said of the shootout win.

“I thought the guys did a really good job, Bo, Kyle and obviously Ilya. It’s an important point for us.”

The Islanders currently have 87 points in the bag as they preserve their first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
