Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant has reportedly suffered a left ankle sprain during practice, just weeks ahead of the start of the 2025-26 NBA season.
A team spokesperson confirmed the injury on Monday, while Grizzlies beat reporter Damichael Cole shared that Morant is considered week-to-week as he recovers. “Per Grizzlies team spokesperson: Ja Morant suffered a sprained left ankle in practice yesterday. He is considered week-to-week,” Cole posted on social media.

The setback is another injury-related setback for the two-time All-Star. Morant played 50 games last season, the second-fewest of his career, following a 2023-24 campaign limited to just nine appearances due to suspension and a shoulder injury. Despite the interruptions, he averaged 23.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game, while also recording a career-best 1.2 steals per contest.
The Grizzlies open their preseason schedule tonight against the Detroit Pistons, with their regular-season opener set for October 22 against the New Orleans Pelicans.
