The 2-time Pro Bowler had received the franchise tag from the franchise and would have earn 24 million dollars this year if he competed on the tag.
Jacksonville, in the past month, put the franchise tag on the pass rusher, who had his best campaign in the past year, finishing with an organization-record 17.5 sacks, evened for 2nd in the league last campaign.
Allen ranks 6th in pressure (228) and is tied for 10th in sacks (32) in the National Football League in the last 3 campaigns. Josh’s 45 sacks are 2nd on the franchise’s career list, only 10 behind Tony Brackens.
The organization and the pass rusher had until mid-July to reach an agreement on a long-term deal. His contract means only 2 footballers leaguewide who were tagged are yet to ink long-term contracts – Bucks’ Winfield and Bengals’ Higgins, as the latter had demanded a trade in March.
