The Jamaican men’s 4×100 meters relay team, traditionally a powerhouse in the event, faced a surprising and disappointing outcome as they failed to qualify for the final in Paris 2024.
Despite being two-time Olympic champions and holding the world record since 2012, the Jamaican squad could only manage a fourth-place finish in their heat with a time of 38.45 seconds.

It’s going to feel weird not seeing Jamaica in the final, especially after being so accustomed to their ICONIC sprinters dominating the track over… pic.twitter.com/FsQjyEOSl4

This performance was not sufficient to advance to the final, as only the top three teams from each heat automatically qualify, and Jamaica’s time was not fast enough to secure one of the two additional spots available to the “lucky losers.” The first heat was significantly faster, with teams like Japan and the reigning Olympic champions from Tokyo, Italy, securing their places in the final.
The United States team recorded the fastest time in the heats, completing their run in 37.47 seconds. South Africa also delivered a strong performance, finishing just under 38 seconds to secure second place in the first heat. In the second heat, China posted the best time at 38.24 seconds, though this time was relatively slow compared to the results from the first heat, where seven teams recorded faster times than China’s best effort.
