Jalen Brunson showcased his scoring prowess by netting 11 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter, leading the New York Knicks to a hard-fought 114-109 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night, despite LeBron James’ 109th career triple-double.
Julius Randle delivered a stellar performance with 27 points and 14 rebounds, while Immanuel Quickley chipped in with 20 points. The Knicks demonstrated resilience in the final quarter, fending off a comeback attempt led by James, securing their second road win over the Lakers in 2023.
LeBron James posted an impressive stat line of 25 points, 11 assists, and 11 rebounds, recording his second triple-double of the season. Anthony Davis contributed 32 points and 14 rebounds for the Lakers, but despite their efforts, Los Angeles couldn’t capitalize on opportunities to narrow the gap down the stretch.
In a crucial moment, with 3:38 left, James scored consecutive baskets to bring the Lakers within four points. However, Randle responded with a clutch 3-pointer to beat the shot clock. Despite James winning a jump ball, his missed 3-pointer with 40 seconds left failed to trim the Knicks’ lead, and Randle sealed the victory with a dunk on the other end.
At 38 years old, James continues to make history, being the sole player to achieve a triple-double in his 21st NBA season. Austin Reaves contributed 20 points for the Lakers, who welcomed back Davis, D’Angelo Russell, and Cam Reddish from injury but couldn’t secure the win despite their return.
Randle, facing his former team, tallied 16 points in the first half, while Brunson showcased his versatility with three 3-pointers in an overall strong performance, helping the Knicks bounce back from a recent loss to the Clippers.
