The deal ties the coach until 2025-26 season with a further option of extension.
“Jim has proven himself to be one of the best general managers in the NHL,” Dallas Stars owner and governor Tom Gaglardi said in a press release. “He has meticulously built a team through free agency, trades and the NHL draft that’s among the best in the league, while also ensuring that the Stars are championship contenders for years to come.”
Nill has been at the Stars since 2013 and has notched a record of 403-280-98. Before his tenure, Dallas had missed out on the playoffs for 5 straight years.
After his arrival they reached the 1st round, before getting 2nd place in 2015-16. Recently they enjoyed a more consistent run by reaching the final in 2019-20 last season, when the Stars bagged 108 points before getting eliminated by eventual Stanley Cup champions.
