QB Joe Burrow officially inked his 5-year deal extension today. The contract is worth up to 275 million dollars, with almost 220 million guaranteed. The player’s agent and the Bengals front office discussed different possibilities with his new deal to allow the franchise to keep the best players in the upcoming years.
“That was crucial for me, and that was part of why I was part of the process,” Joe shared. “To be absolutely sure that that would happen.”
During the transition of the Bengals from a poor organization to a Super Bowl finalist, the franchise benefited from having the QB on a rookie contract. That allowed the team to spend much on other positions, with the most spent on the defensive line. In the past campaign, Cincinnati ranked 5th in total spending at the DE and DT positions.
Joe Burrow got a bit emotional as he described the moment it all hit him – walking out of the room after officially signing his historic extension.
“You just reflect on everything you’ve been through…what people don’t see is all the years before that, when you’re not playing.… pic.twitter.com/vRUxvwFQdL
