Herdman will ink a multiyear deal with the MLS club from Canada.
John left Canada Soccer after 1st being hired in 2011 to become Canada’s women’s national team manager. He had success as he led the nation to 2 Olympic bronze medals.
After that, he became Canada’s men’s coach, qualifying the country for its 1st World Cup since 1986.
However, scandals about money in Canada Soccer and problems in the dressing room convinced Herman to leave his national manager job and accept the offer from Toronto FC.
The Canadian side will play 9 more games until the end of the current campaign, and while they can still clinch the playoffs, they are in the last place in the East Conference with only 19 points after 26 fixtures.
The Canadian MLS club dismissed manager and sporting director Bob Bradley at the end of June and has been looking for a permanent replacement since then.
