The 25-year-old clocked a season’s best 3 minutes and 29.38 seconds to secure the top step of the podium. Kerr timed his run to perfection and stole the win in the last 200m from Ingebrigsten, who lost last year’s Championship to Jake Wightman in a similar fashion.
The heartbroken Norwegian finished in second with 3 minutes and 29.65 seconds, ahead of compatriot Narve Gilje Nordas(3:29.68).
It was Britain’s fourth medal of the championship and second gold after Katerina Johnson-Thompson triumphed at the heptathlon.
