In a thrilling finish, Kirill Kaprizov netted a goal with only 4.9 seconds remaining in overtime, propelling the Minnesota Wild to a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.
Assisted by Marcus Johansson, Kaprizov skillfully maneuvered past Canadiens goalie Sam Montembeault, securing the win for the Wild and eliminating the need for a shootout. This marked Kaprizov’s third goal in two consecutive games, following his impressive double-score performance against Boston on Tuesday.
Thursday’s matchup was the fourth overtime game for the Wild in their last five contests. Defenseman Brock Faber contributed his second career NHL goal, with additional goals from Matt Boldy. Marco Rossi played a key role with a goal, two assists, and even engaged in a fight, achieving a “Gordie Howe hat trick” and providing a spark for the Wild.
After enduring a six-game scoreless streak, Kaprizov rebounded with a remarkable two-goal night in Boston on Tuesday, finishing Thursday’s game with three points and marking his 71st career multi-point game.
Notably, Kaprizov’s decisive goal in the dying seconds of overtime was his third game-winner of the season and his second in as many games.
