Slovenia were the ones who found themselves in the driving seat as Anze Kuralt scored just within 90 seconds.
Kazakhstan tied it up at 1-1 with a power-play goal from Nikita Mikhailis towards the end of first period.
Slovenia once again found themselves ahead in the opening seconds of the second period as Kuralt slotted his second of the night.
Baturlan Muratov drew the Kazakhs level in power-play. Jan Drozg put Slovenia ahead for the third time and for the third time in succession the Kazakhs responded with Yevgeni Rumarev.
This time around though luck was not on Slovenia side as Maxim Mukhmetanov struck late to give his country the lead and eventually the win.
The success means Kazakhstan finish with 7 points, which will place them either six or seventh in Group B. As for the Slovenes, they will be leaving the tournament bitterly disappointed, having been relegated and been so close to winning in many of the games.
